ChampionChip Timing

TIMING: We will use the ChampionChip timing system to more quickly and accurately obtain and process race splits.  The system consists of a small chip that is worn on a velcro strap around your ankle.  You will receive your timing chip on race morning and you will be required to wear it throughout the duration of the event.  When you pick up your chip, please make sure that the bib number assigned to the chip corresponds to you bib number.  Volunteers will collect your chip as soon as you complete the event.

For team participants, only one chip will be assigned.  The swimmer should pick up the chip on race morning.  Relay exchanges will be accomplished by passing the chip from one relay member to the next.  All bikes must be appropriately racked when the chip exchanges are made.  That means the bicyclist may not remove his/her bike from the rack before they have attached their chip and they must re-rack the bike before they may hand the chip to the runner.

In order to ensure that the mats can read the chips as athletes enter and exit the transition area for the bicycle portion of the event, participants will not be permitted to ride within the transition area or across the mats. Clearly marked areas will designate where you may mount your bike after exiting and the dismount area will also be clearly marked as you return from the bike course. Failure to abide by this rule will result in time penalties and/or disqualification.

For athletes who have their own ChampionChip, please be sure to put your code number on the race application where requested.  If registering on-line, your code will be requested if you indicate that you have your own chip.  If you show up on race day with a personal chip and you have not registered the number with us in advance, please use one of our chips instead of your own.  This will avoid the possibility of having the wrong chip code assigned to you and result in no times being generated.  If anyone participating on a team has a chip and wishes to have the entire team use it, please be sure to provide the chip code on the team applications.

Even though we are using the ChampionChip timing system, you are still required to attach your frame number to your bike as well as wear your bib number - FACING FORWARD - at all times on the run.

In the event you lose or fail to return your chip, you will be charged $35 for its replacement.  Failure to pay the replacement fee will result in a five year suspension from participation in the Breezy Point Triathlon.
